Gonna party like it's our Birthdays!

Ube Cake!
This is a cake made from ube, a purple yam.  Apparently to make the cake the ube must be cooked and then mixed with other ingredients and stirred and stirred and stirred until it is the right consistency, which is a thick paste somewhere between fudge and taffy.  It tastes pretty good and our friend Inky's wife made it for us for our birthdays.

Leche Flan!
Inky's wife also made this for us.  This is a lot like classic flan, but creamier... it was unbelievably delicious!

Barabara's
Traditional Filipino food and dance!
Our friend Natz and his friend Michelle took us here to celebrate our birthdays!

Umbrella dance!

Those are candles in red handkerchiefs.  They swung them around and passed them back and forth during the dance.  Eventually passing them to the girls who danced with them in their hands while maintaining the candles balanced on their heads.

The Whiskey dance!

Michelle got me one of the must have accessories here - a fan.  Gorgeous!

RJ and DJ Natz

Our birthday fudge cake in caramel sauce (with a basil leaf on the side).

Happy birthdays to us!

Barbara's is in Intramuros, the walled off old Spanish section of Manila.  The buildings and streets there have been renovated but kept the same as when the Spanish were in Manila.  The building that houses Barbara's is a beautiful old Spanish building, obvious from the architecture and wood carving.

Maybe a birthday toast?

Anton and Lorna
Lorna works with us and is Filipina, but lived in Northern California for a long while.

George and Arlene
George works with us and has been here for over 15 years.

This was my "chicken club" sandwich from a local "French" cafe.  It had a grilled chicken breast, a scrambled egg, lettuce, tomato, cucumber and mango.  Not what I was expecting, not particularly bad.
